The films from BFFB 38 travel the world

We have already kicked off the new edition of BFFB, number 39, but we absolutely do not forget the films that have already participated in our festival: we feel a great affection and esteem for them and for the people who made them. We aim to follow them and accompany them on their journey around the world.

The BFFB is primarily concerned with films for which the international festival circuit is a fundamental source of visibility, thanks to which they can then arrive with better prospects at the complicated level of national distribution in commercial theatres and, eventually, at on-demand broadcasting platforms and television.

For all these reasons, we are delighted to share with you the successes that some of the films that were part of the last edition of the festival, and of film-makers particularly linked to the BFFB, are enjoying all over the world.

WIND, TALK TO ME (2025), for example, by Serbian director Stefan Djordjevic, winner of the BFFB38 Competition, where it had its Italian premiere, received the Best Film Award at the prestigious Sarajevo Festival; also in Sarajevo, UNSERE ZEIT WIRD KOMMEN (2025), by Ivette Löcker, which received the Distribution Support Award at BFFB 38, won the Best Documentary Award.

The Austrians Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter, who were present in Bolzano with their two previous works, the documentaries DREAMING DOGS (2024) and SPACE DOGS (2019), won the Special Jury Prize in the Competition at the last Locarno Film Festival, one of the most prestigious in the world, with their first fiction work, WHITE SNAIL (2025).

After passing through the BFFB38 Competition, BALENTES, by Sardinian director Giovanni Columbu, participated in the Annency Animation Festival, perhaps the most important of its kind in Europe.

LITTLE TROUBLE GIRLS, by Urska Djukic, distributed in Italy by Tucker Film and presented as a national premiere at BFFB as the opening film of the last edition, was chosen as the Slovenian candidate for the Oscars after having participated in significant festivals such as Karlovy Vary and Sarajevo.

MY BOYFRIEND EL FASCISTA, by Matthias Lintner from South Tyrol, distributed in Italy by The Open Reel, after its world premiere in our Competition, was selected at the prestigious Canadian documentary film festival Hot Docs, where it participated in the World Showcase section.

BAJO LAS BANDERAS, EL SOL, by Paraguayan Juanjo Pereira, which was part of our RealeNonReale section, was selected at the San Sebastián (Spain) and BAFICI (Argentina) festivals, among others.

Last, but not least, FIUME O MORTE!, by Croatian director Igor Bezinović, in Italy distributed by Wanted, after its passage in Bolzano as a BFFB Special, was selected at the Austrian festival Crossing Europe in Linz and at the DokFest in Munich, as well as being part of the prestigious Zabaltegui section again in San Sebastián.

Congratulations and we hope for continued success on the festival circuit for these titles, and for all those who participated at BFFB 38!
