Based on an event that really happened in Sardinia in 1940, against the backdrop of fascism and on the eve of the Second World War, the film tells of the theft of some horses from a military farm. The protagonists are two boys, Ventura e Michele, aged 11 and 14. Their intentions are completely idealistic: free the horses so that they do not die in war.
