The Bolzano Film Festival Bozen is delighted to announce the latest edition of Hybrid Cinema, the series of screenings organised by the ZeLIG – School of Documentary Film, Bolzano, in which the festival is partnering with the SNCCI – the Italian National Association of Film Critics – and the other participating organisations. Eight events, free of charge and open to all, from 24 September to 17 December 2026, taking place at the WAAG in Piazza del Grano and the Filmclub in Bolzano.
True to its subtitle – “The place where cinema reinvents itself: between documentary and fiction” – “Hybrid Cinema” presents works that navigate the fluid boundary between documentary and fiction, between memory and imagination. Each screening will be accompanied by an in-theatre discussion with directors, critics and industry experts, who will introduce the films and interact with the audience.
The programme begins on 24 September with La memoria del mondo by Mirko Locatelli, followed by a discussion with the critic and programme curator Giulio Sangiorgio, and continues with a double bill dedicated to Pietro Marcello, who will be in attendance for Martin Eden (28 September) and Futura (29 September). This is followed by No Other Land with editor Anne Fabini (15 October), Meine Frau weint by Angela Schanelec with Vincenzo Bugno, artistic director of the Bolzano Film Festival (21 October), Niñxs by Kani Lapuerta with ZDF/ARTE editor Sabine Bubeck-Paaz (19 November), as well as the Kieślowski–Łoziński evening featuring Talking Heads and The Balcony Movie in the presence of Paweł Łoziński (24 November). To round off the programme, on 17 December there will be a presentation of the book on Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel, which is to be published as part of the ‘Textur’ series of the Vienna International Film Festival (Viennale), as well as a screening of La Pivellina followed by a discussion with Eva Sangiorgi, the artistic director of the Viennale.
Hybrid Cinema is a film series organised by ZeLIG – the Bolzano School of Documentary Cinema – in collaboration with the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen – BFFB, the Italian National Association of Film Critics (SNCCI), WAAG, ESoDoc, the Polish Institute in Rome, WFDiF (Production company specialising in documentaries and feature films) and Pigrecoemme (School of cinema and photography), with the support of Bolzano City Council and the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige.
