Marina, an 18-year old orphan, travels to Galicia (Spain) to meet her paternal grandparents and get their signatures which she needs to secure a scholarship. Amid unfamiliar relatives, old emotions, delicate moments, and hidden wounds re-surface, as she pieces together fragmented memories of the parents she barely knew.

Carla Simón (1986) is a Catalan screenwriter and film director. Raised in a small village in a large storytelling family, she studied Audiovisual Communication in Barcelona and completed a master’s at the London Film School. Her autobiographical debut, Verano 1993 (2017), won Best First Film and the Generation Kplus Grand Prix at Berlinale, three Goya Awards, and represented Spain at the 2018 Oscars. Her short film Letter to my mother for my son (2022) premiered at Giornate degli Autori, Venice. Her second feature, Alcarràs (2022), won the Golden Bear at Berlinale, screened at over 90 festivals, and represented Spain at the 2023 Oscars. Romería, her third feature, premiered in the Official Competition at Cannes.
