Eleven-year-old Liao Jie and his father have been saving money, hoping that they will be able to buy a home of their own in three years. However, they fail to notice that the world is rapidly changing.

The property prices have rocketed and in the blink of an eye, their savings are not enough. In frustration, Liao Jie comes to realise the harsh reality of being poor.

Born in 1967 in Taiwan, Hsiao Ya-Chuan studied Fine Arts. His debut Mirror Image (2000) premiered at Cannes and won multiple awards. Taipei Exchanges (2010) earned the Audience Award at Taipei Film Awards. Father to Son (2018) won at Rotterdam. He also directed a segment of 10+10 (Berlinale 2012). His latest film, Old Fox, is Taiwan’s entry for the 97th Academy Awards.
