Lyabiba travels with her daughter and granddaughter (the director) from Kazakhstan to Poland to find the mass grave in which her father is buried. In Tatarstan, they seek not only his remains but also lost family ties. Along the way, they confront Soviet traumas and identity struggles—against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the migration of Russians to Kazakhstan.

Her Dubai memoir was a Kazakh bestseller in 2021. Her short Ander won Best Documentary at Ajyal 2020 and screened worldwide. Her debut feature documentary, Gingerbread of Her Dad, premieres at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival.
