At the end of September, the mist surrounds a mountain tribe. The smoke from the firewood shed signals the start of a day for Hayung’s big Atayal family which consists of three generations. Grandpa Hayung has for all of his life followed the Atayal tradition, GAGA, which younger generations no longer value. All he can do is try to teach his grandson Enoch.

Laha Mebow, Taiwan’s first indigenous female director and an Atayal, studied at Shih Hsin University. For over 20 years, she has focused on indigenous films and documentaries. Lakah Laqi (2016) won five awards at the Taipei Film Festival and screened at 20 festivals. It represented Taiwan at the Oscars. With Finding Sayun, Lakah Laqi, and GAGA, she completed her Atayal trilogy.
