In the inseparable company of his dog Laki, writer Paolo Cognetti returns to the alpine scenery of ‘The Eight Mountains’, this time for a documentary that recounts Monte Rosa through breathtaking landscapes and encounters with those who have found in the mountains, instead of a home, a true ‘place of feeling’.
Paolo Cognetti was born in Milan in 1978. He began his literary career with several short story collections published by minimum fax.
Over the years, he has written Il ragazzo selvatico (Terre di Mezzo, 2013), Le otto montagne (Einaudi, 2016), Senza mai arrivare in cima (Einaudi, 2018), La felicità del lupo (Einaudi, 2021), and Giù nella valle (Einaudi, 2023). In 2021, he curated L’Antonia, a book on the poet Antonia Pozzi (Ponte alle Grazie). That same year, his documentary film and podcast Paolo Cognetti. Sogni di Grande Nord were released.
His novel Le otto montagne has been translated into over 40 languages and won the 2017 Premio Strega, the Premio Strega Giovani, and the Prix Médicis étranger. The book was adapted into a film of the same name, which won the Jury Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and four David di Donatello awards in 2023, including Best Film.
