The exceptional year 2020 was followed by another difficult year for the Bolzano Film Festival. After renewed strict measures to contain the COVID 19 pandemic, the 34th edition of BOLZANO FILM FESTIVAL Bolzano took place online from 13 – 18 April 2021.
Under the motto “#bffb34onlyathome”, the festival programme was made internet-ready and brought the festival atmosphere into the private sphere. The online version was not only a stopgap solution appropriate to the situation, but also an opportunity to break new ground in cultural mediation. With the varied programme, which included not only the films but also live broadcasts of talks, a master class, the opening and the awards ceremony, as well as film talks with directors, we were able to reach almost 7,000 viewers.
1972-2022: Autonomy Experience
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Second Statute of Autonomy, the Filmclub, in collaboration with the Center for Autonomy Experience, is hosting a film series on autonomy and minorities throughout the year that aims to think outside the box, culminating at the BFFB. The film journey will be accompanied by discussions and encounters.
“Local artists” – goes Euregio
The BFFB has offered a platform to the local film industry since the very beginning. In its 35th edition, the festival extends the radius of the Local artists series to the European region Tyrol South Tyrol Trentino. Welcome Tyrol, benvenuto Trentino!
Focus Europe: Albania/Kosovo
In 2022, the Focus Europe series will present a selection of current filmmaking from Albania/Kosovo. The new generation of filmmakers takes a critical look at the recent past of the Balkan countries.
BFFB – Online
The magic of the big screen is irreplaceable. However, the 2021 online edition has also opened up new avenues and so live broadcasts of talks and additional film screenings will also be offered online in 2022.
Film submissions to participate in the festival for the Best Feature and Documentary Competition, as well as for “Local artists” are open until 15 December 2021.
All information will be available here from October 2021!
