Call for “Small languages DOC”

The “36th Bolzano Film Festival Bozen”, organized by the Filmclub of Bolzano, is preparing for the 36° edition, scheduled in Bolzano from April 18 to 23, 2023. The Festival, in collaboration with the Free University of Bozen, will dedicate a special section to films on linguistic minorities.

The section “Small languages DOC” will collect works (documentary / fiction / hybrid) of any length, which deal with issues related to linguistic minorities and their territories, or films in which minority languages are used and spoken.
We welcome film submission from any region of the world! The section, which is not competitive, adresses a central theme in many works that tell stories related to local identities, territorial differences, linguistic and cultural affiliations.

The selected works will be screened out of competition, during the days of the Festival.
The section will be curated by the linguists Silvia dal Negro and Daniela Veronesi (Free University of Bozen/Bolzano) and by the documentary and geographers Daniele Ietri (Free University of Bozen/Bolzano and Associazione La Fournaise) and Eleonora Mastropietro (University of Milan and Associazione La Fournaise).

To submit a work to the section, please send all information to Filmfreeway or send – by December 15, 2022– an email to Daniele Ietri (daniele.ietri@unibz.it) providing the following information:

– title, director, production;

– year and country of production;

– duration;

– language(s) and subtitles available;

– participation in festivals or other selections, including any screenings in South Tyrol;

– available screening format (DCP required);

– online screener, with password.

No entry fee is charged; materials submitted will be used only for selection purposes.

All participants will be notified of selection results by mid-February 2023.
