Women – Films – Festivals?
Women’s employment in the highest-grossing films of 2023 remains astonishingly low according to new gender reports, such as the one from Austria in 2024. Whether it’s film music, screenwriting, cinematography, or directing: those who worked behind the scenes on the films we watched last year were predominantly men, and the representation of women in these roles has changed little over the past 25 years. What about films by female directors in festival programs?
